Connor had moved in with Karen easily. He didn't have much in the way of material things so it just made the move that much easier. They got to see more of each other this way except the times she was on overtime or he was working multiple shifts. Fortunately he had off this weekend and he was going to enjoy it. He ordered from one of their favorite restaurants and had dinner set out for when she walked through the door. The lights were dimmed and he had candles lit for them to enjoy dinner by candlelight.

"I really, really appreciate it. Today was just so hard at work."

She admitted that as she sat down and looked up at him with a grateful smile. Giving his hand a loving squeeze. she appreciated when he did these things because she hardly took care of herself sometimes. She was so busy as a protector of everyone else. That was what made him so perfect for her because he saw everything going on in her life even when she didn't.

"God remind me that we can't just run away together."

"Actually, I was thinking we should. I want you to be my wife, Karen."

He smiled and sat down across from her taking her hand and giving it a return loving squeeze. He knew she was who he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, and he wanted her to know that he felt that way completely.

"I want that too."

Karen's smile over at him was relieved. They had talked about this a few times before so she thought he was just talking to her about it again. It didn't cross her mind that he might actually be about to propose. So she even joked a little.

"Are you suggesting we elope this weekend or something?"

"I am actually."

He knew she was joking but he was serious and he smiled reaching into his pocket and pulled out the small black box. Of course she would know most likely what was inside that box. He looked at her and dropped down onto one knee.

"Karen, would you do me the honor of marrying me?"

Connor might laugh because he'd see Karen's face go through the stages of recognition. First she was confused, then her eyes got very wide and her mouth dropped open. She looked down at him and nodded, completely in shock in the best possible way.

"Yes. Yes, of course. Wait, are you telling me you seriously planned a wedding tomorrow?" she asked. Of course this was Connor and he was sneaky and could certainly pull strings so it wouldn't surprise her if he had pulled some big event together.

He saw everything that just went through her facial features. He smiled as it actually dawned on her he was asking her then chuckled softly with a grin.

"I did actually. I can cancel it if you think it is too soon."

"No, no," she said quickly, not wanting him to think that she had any doubts. "I just can't believe you were able to do that behind my back."

But it wasn't that surprising. Karen had been preoccupied at work with turning 45 and wondering what that meant for her career. Now that she was older the suggestions that she ought to retire were getting more insistent and she wasn't sure what was going to happen. So to come home from that to Connor telling her he wanted to marry her and couldn't wait to do so meant so much. She started crying not even realizing she was doing it.

"I can be stealthy."

He smiled and leaned in kissing her lovingly. He couldn't wait for her to be his wife and to start a new chapter with her. He stroked her cheek tenderly.

"I love you so much."

"I love you too."

Karen kissed him back and wiped at the tears rolling down her cheeks. Considering that she had driven out to surprise him at his hotel once this was totally normal in their relationship and showed how much they loved each other. She helped pull him up off his knee once he put the engagement ring on her finger but might surprise him by tugging him onto her lap.

"So what do we need to do? Tell me what I need to know."
